HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR DOCTOR: TICKS AND TINEA
Ticks
Ticks are common insect predators, both in the suburbs of the cities and around the continental backblocks. It is rare for a tick to go undetected on humans and most can be easily removed.
There is no truth in the rumor that leaving the head of a tick behind causes poisoning. It is true that a tick bite can be the site of entry of a skin infection and if redness and pain are persistent this is a good indication that a visit to the doctor is required.
Home Remedies
Ticks can be removed with a pair of tweezers. There is no need to apply methylated spirits or kerosene. No special technique is required. Apply the tweezers as close as possible to the head of the tick and pull. Keep an eye out for secondary infection. If this complication occurs seek medical attention.
Tinea
Tinea is the medical term for the common yeast or fungal infections called ringworms. Tinea itself is the Latin word for a round, red worm and it relates to the red scaly boundary that usually circles the site of an active tinea infection. Tinea is rapidly responsive to the Imidazole creams like Canesten and Daktarin.
Home Remedies
Vioform, Tinaderm and Whitfield\'s ointment are still effective over the counter anti-tinea preparations, although the appearance of the Imidazoles have caused them to fall into disuse.
